WRITERS CELEBRATE T. M. ALUKO @90, SHIFTS ACHEBE/CEASIR TRIBUTE

Dear Writers and The Press,

Greetings!

The ambitious programme we lined up for the Chinua Achebe and Aime Caesaire celebration on CONTINUITIES IN AFRICAN DEFENCE: FROM AIME CAESAIRE TO CHINUA ACHEBE will have to be cancelled because the signals we presently have from our major invitees are likely to reduce the quantum of impact we had designed into the programme.

We therefore regret the postponement to a time we will communicate to you pretty soon.

We would however still be holding our Saturday June 14 reading with discussions around Achebe's Things Fall Apart and be hosting Odili Ujubuonu, award winning author of Pregnancy of the gods and his latest work, Treasures in the Wind.

The Exco will also be visiting one of the greatest humourist writers in the country, Pa T.M Aluko who would be turning 90 on the same June 14. The uthor of One Man One Matchet, One Man one Wif among his many offerings, a trustee of the Association of Nigerian Authors national, is a great pride in longivity. His son, Seye Aluko, a writer,  will be coming to tell us about his father and his works.

We encourage members who would like to be part of the birthday visit to the Apapa home of the grand old man to call the Chairman, Chike Ofili on 01 8963387, 08023409781 or email him on chikeofili@yahoo.com.for the 10 am group take off to his house in a bus from Chicken Republic restaurant at Jibowu Bus Stop, near the overhead bridge between Yaba, Ikorodu Road and the road that leads to Ojuelegba and Mushin.

We hope to return to our Aina Onabolu Complex wing of the National Theatre, Iganmu to have our June reading around him, Achebe and Odil Aina of the National i our guest writer who writes from the same pan Africanist philiosophical premise at 2pm.

Please massively attend this meeting.
